The fake Prophet told the lady to leave her things behind and walk a short distance to a junction where she could pray and leave a N100 note
An Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan issued an order on Monday that demanded that a fraudster, Fake Prophet, named Ezekiel Onikoyi, who is 39 years old, serve a sentence of two weeks in prison for stealing a woman’s handbag that contained a phone, a power bank, and N4,000.
Onikoyi, whose address was not disclosed, faces charges of theft, acquiring money under false pretences, and conduct likely to create a breach of peace.
Sgt. Samuel Owolabi, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences at the old Toll Gate on the Ibadan-Lagos Motorway on March 14 at 11:30 p.m.
According to Owolabi, the defendant pretended to be a prophet and conned Mrs. Balikis Adeoti, who was on her way home from work. He claims that the defendant, who was posing as a prophet, stopped Adeoti on the road and said he had a revelation for her.
In order to have her troubles resolved, he told her to leave her things behind and walk a short distance to a junction where she could pray and leave a N100 note.
Owolabi claims that Adeoti left her bag behind and followed instructions, but upon her return, both her bag and the fake prophet had disappeared.
He claimed that in addition to her N4,000, the defendant had stolen her bag, which included phones and a power bank worth N220,000.
The prosecutor stated that the defendant later found the power bank but not the phone. According to him, the offences were under Oyo State’s 2000 Criminal Laws Sections 390 (9), 419, and 249 (d).
The defendant pleaded guilty to the three-count charge.
According to the verdict handed down by the Magistrate, Miss Gladys Oladele, the convicted individual was found guilty of the charges against him and was given a sentence of two weeks of jail at the Agodi Correctional Centre in Ibadan.
Oladele offered the convict the chance to do community service for a month. The court ruled that the complainant should get her power bank back from the convicted felon.
