Governor Makinde was honoured with the Man of the Year award, which is the highest honor that can be bestowed.

Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has been selected as the Man of the Year by the Independent Newspaper for the year 2024. He was honoured with the award during a vibrant ceremony that took place on Saturday evening at the Expo Convention Centre, which is located within the Eko Hotels & Suites on Victoria Island in Lagos.
Several notable individuals, including the First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, seven state governors, two ministers now serving, many lawmakers, important politicians, and captains of industry, were honoured with various honours during the ceremony.
Governor Makinde was honoured with the Man of the Year award, which is the highest honor that can be bestowed.
Governor Makinde was selected as the Man of the Year in appreciation of his remarkable contributions to government, democracy, and the development of infrastructure, as stated by the organizers of the event.
In response to the award that was presented by the chairman of the event, Chief Olabode George, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, Governor Makinde’s Chief of Staff stated, “On behalf of His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, I dedicate this award to the great people of Oyo State—the true architects of this success.” Ogunwuyi was the person who represented Governor Makinde at the event.

The Nigerian Tribune named Governor Makinde the Governor of the Year in 2019, Silverbird named him the Man of the Year in 2022, Vanguard named him the Governor of the Year in 2022, and Leadership named him the Governor of the Year in 2023. President Makinde has won multiple awards throughout his career.
