Kenya Airways has announced that it successfully airlifted over 10,000 passengers from Nigeria between 2023 and 2024.

This achievement highlights the importance of the Nigerian market to the airline and the Kenyan government. The Kenya airways Nigeria, Regional Manager, America and West Africa, Ngamau Stephen, disclosed this information during a press conference at the airline’s office in Lagos.

In 2024, Kenya Airways increased its flight frequency to Lagos from seven to 10 weekly flights, resulting in a 21 per cent capacity increase. This enhancement provides greater flexibility and convenience for passengers, reinforcing the airline’s dedication to the Nigerian market. The increased flight frequency also demonstrates the airline’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for air travel in Nigeria.

Two years ago, Kenya Airways launched ‘Asante,’ a new and enhanced frequent flyer programme designed to reward its most loyal passengers. Nigeria was among the first markets to experience the rollout of this programme. The ‘Asante’ programme offers members a range of benefits, including priority check-in, extra baggage allowance, and access to exclusive lounges.

The airline is open to partnering with local carriers in Nigeria to enhance domestic and regional connectivity and provide more travel options for passengers within and into Nigeria and beyond. This partnership opportunity is expected to stimulate economic growth, increase trade, and promote tourism in Nigeria.

Kenya Airways commended the Kenyan government for implementing a progressive visa waiver policy for most African countries, including Nigeria. This policy aims to promote tourism and leisure travel. The visa waiver policy allows Nigerian citizens to travel to Kenya without the need for a visa, making it easier for them to explore Kenya’s rich culture, wildlife, and scenic landscapes.

The airline announced the introduction of London Gatwick as its second gateway to the United Kingdom. This expansion enhances the airline’s service with options between Africa and the UK. The new route is expected to increase trade and tourism between Nigeria and the UK, and provide passengers with more convenient travel options.

Kenya Airways has received several awards and recognition for its outstanding service and commitment to excellence. Some of these awards include:

  • Africa’s Leading Airline: Kenya Airways was awarded Africa’s Leading Airline at the 2022 World Travel Awards.
Best Airline in Africa: Kenya Airways was named Best Airline in Africa at the 2022 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
IOSA Certification: Kenya Airways has been certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for its commitment to safety and quality.

Kenya Airways’ achievement of airlifting 10,000 Nigerians in 2024 is a testament to the airline’s commitment to the Nigerian market. With its increased flight frequency, frequent flyer programme, partnership opportunities, and progressive visa waiver policy, Kenya Airways is poised to continue its growth and expansion in Nigeria.
