The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the location of the shallow grave where the body of Adedamola Ogunbode, a Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, was buried.

The police made this discovery after arresting the principal suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo, who was rumored to have fled to the Benin Republic.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, the prime suspect was arrested on Monday morning in the Alakuko area of the state. Hundeyin revealed that Ajisomo was responsible for emptying Ogunbode’s bank account using the victim’s mobile phone.

The police have arrested three suspects, including Whepetoji Sunday, a pastor who allegedly received N70,000 from the victim’s account, and Sheriff Adebayo, a church member accused of receiving N300,000. The mother of the prime suspect, Omolara Ajisomo, was also arrested for allegedly assisting her children in fleeing after they received money from the victim’s account.

A source involved in the investigation revealed that police detectives were on their way to exhume the victim’s body from the shallow grave. The police have also sealed off the church where the arrested cleric worshipped, following intelligence reports of a planned arson in retaliation.

This incident is not isolated, as there have been other cases of shallow graves being discovered in Nigeria.

For example, in 2021, more than 12 shallow graves were uncovered in the compound of a confessed killer in Akwa Ibom State. In another incident, the Borno State Police Command arrested two suspects in connection with a decomposing body found in a shallow grave in Maiduguri.

The Lagos State University (LASU) has reacted to the incident, condemning the brutal murder of its graduate. The university’s spokesperson, Ademola Adekoya, expressed shock and sadness over the incident, saying that the university community was still in shock over the brutal murder of its graduate.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured that justice will be served in the case. The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said that the police would do everything possible to ensure that those responsible for the murder of Adedamola Ogunbode are brought to justice.

The discovery of the shallow grave and the arrest of the fourth suspect in the murder of Adedamola Ogunbode is a significant development in the case. The police have assured that justice will be served, and the university community is still in shock over the brutal murder of its graduate.
