Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has launched a scathing attack on some of the club’s underperforming stars, labeling them as “not good enough” and “probably overpaid.”

Ratcliffe’s comments come after a dismal start to his reign at Old Trafford, which has seen the team struggle in the Premier League. The British billionaire singled out Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana, Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, and Antony as the chief causes of his frustration.

Sancho and Antony are currently on loan at Chelsea and Real Betis, respectively, after failing to make an impact at United. Ratcliffe expressed his disappointment at still paying instalments of transfer fees on several players, including Sancho, who cost £17 million.

“Some are not good enough, and some probably are overpaid,” Ratcliffe said in an interview with the BBC. “But for us to mould the squad that we are fully responsible for, and accountable for, will take time.”

Ratcliffe also accepted that the decision to stick with former boss Erik ten Hag was a mistake. Ten Hag was eventually sacked in October and replaced by Ruben Amorim.

“I agree the Erik ten Hag and Dan Ashworth decisions were errors,” Ratcliffe said. “I think there were some mitigating circumstances, but ultimately they were errors. I accept that and I apologize for that.”

Despite United’s struggles under Amorim, Ratcliffe expressed his support for the manager, saying he is doing a “really good job” with the squad available to him.

Ratcliffe’s comments come amid growing unrest among Manchester United fans, who protested against the club’s ownership ahead of Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal. The co-owner claimed that the “unpleasant” cost-cutting measures, including a mid-season ticket price hike and redundancies among staff, were “necessary” to prevent the club from running out of money.

Ratcliffe reiterated his commitment to returning Manchester United to greatness, with the aim of winning the Premier League by 2028, the club’s 150th anniversary.
