Sunshine Stars coach Abubakar Bala is optimistic that his team will avoid relegation in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League(NPFL). Despite being placed 18th in the table with 32 points and a goal deficit of -15 after 28 games, Bala believes his side can turn their fortunes around.

The Akure-based team has shown signs of resurgence in their last two games, edging Kwara United 4-2 and forcing a 1-1 draw against Nasarawa United in Lafia. Ahmadu Liman was the hero against Nasarawa United, scoring the equalizer before halftime.

Bala attributed the team’s recent improvement to their hard work and determination. “It was a hard-fought one. The boys did that, and we are grateful for that. Since the commencement of the second round, we haven’t got any win on the road, and we believe the boys are making amends for weaknesses in our away matches.”

The coach is focusing on the positives, highlighting the team’s improved concentration and finishing. “We scored four goals in our last home game. That way, we will get more points home and away, and after two or three more games, we will be out of the red zone.”

Sunshine Stars’ next game is against Plateau United, another relegation-threatened side, at their adopted home ground in Ikenne. With 10 games left to play this season, Bala is confident that his team can avoid the drop.
