Visa applicants whose interviews must be rescheduled due to the outage will be notified
The US Department of State has announced that Visa Interviews will be rescheduled for Nigerians who experienced difficulties with their Visa applications as a result of technological disruptions.
According to the agency, the problems were brought on by a partial system failure, which had a substantial impact on the activities of the consular in Nigeria.
Jennifer Johnson, who serves as the communications officer for the Bureau of Consular Affairs for the agency, stated on Monday to Punch Newspaper that candidates who had previously been interviewed needed to reschedule their interviews and that the consulate will get in touch with them.
There have been several instances of technical issues that have hindered the process of applying for a visa for Nigerians during the past few weeks, particularly with regard to the new visa appointment system.
2024 marked the year that the Mission in Nigeria made the switch to the new system in order to streamline the scheduling process for both the Abuja embassy and the Lagos consulate.
On the other hand, a significant number of candidates encountered difficulties, such as delays in arranging appointments and processing applications.
Following the implementation of the new method, Nigerians residing in Lagos were required to make two trips to the consulate general as part of the process.
According to the mission, the objective was to simplify and improve the transparency of the visa appointment process for applicants applying for visas at the embassy and consulate.
“We are aware of the challenges that many visa applicants are facing as the new system is being implemented,” the Mission had stated, acknowledging the situations that had arisen.
Earlier today, however, Press Officer Mrs. Johnson made the observation that the problems have been fixed and that normalcy has been restored.
She made the following statement: “All consular operations have resumed as normal.” She also noted that “Visa applicants whose interviews must be rescheduled due to the outage will be notified.”
