The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a warning to Nigerians to refrain from modifying their National Identification Number (NIN) data on unauthorized websites.
According to Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, modifications to NIN data can only be carried out on the official NIMC self-service portal.
Attempting to modify NIN data on unauthorized websites can compromise personal information and expose individuals to identity theft. To avoid these risks, NIMC advises Nigerians to use only the official portal for all NIN modification needs.
Using the official NIMC self-service portal ensures that data remains secure and protected. Additionally, individuals can enjoy the convenience of updating their information from anywhere, at any time.
To modify NIN data, individuals may be required to provide specific documents, such as:
– *Digitized NPC attestation certificate* for date of birth modifications (for individuals born before 1992)

– *Court affidavit, newspaper extract, marriage certificate, or other government-issued identification* for name modifications
– *Utility bill, tenancy agreement, or attestation letter from a community leader* for address modifications

To modify NIN data, individuals can follow these steps:
