The National President of the Alumni Association, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Mr. Bolaji Oladeji, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the takeover of TASUED as a federal institution.
This development has sparked widespread praise from various stakeholders, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
Oladeji described the federal government’s decision as a “very cheering” development that would open up new opportunities for rapid growth and development at TASUED. The alumni association welcomed this new development with high expectations, anticipating improved funding, infrastructure development, staff welfare, research funding, and global recognition for the university.
The Vice President of NANS on Inter-Campus Affairs, Akinbodunse Praise, equally commended the federal government for adopting TASUED as a federal university. This gesture, according to Praise, demonstrates the present administration’s commitment to the overall development of the education sector in Nigeria.
Praise also expressed gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for sustaining TASUED despite efforts by the previous administration to scrap the institution. THE NANS leader recalled the struggles of Nigerian students in 2012, during which some students lost their lives. Praise assured that the student community would continue to support the federal government’s efforts for the benefit of Nigerian students.
Akinbodunse Praise further expressed deep appreciation to the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, and other well-meaning Nigerians who supported the institution’s continued existence.
The federal government’s decision to adopt TASUED as a federal university demonstrates its commitment to improving the education sector in Nigeria. This development is expected to have a positive impact on the university’s infrastructure, staff welfare, and research funding.
The Federal Government’s adoption of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) as a federal university is a significant development in Nigeria’s education sector. Established by the Ogun State Government in 2005, TASUED is Nigeria’s first specialized university of education, named after the revered activist and founder of Mayflower School, Dr. Tai Solarin.
President Tinubu approved the adoption on Friday, thanking the Ogun State Government for inviting the Federal Government to take over the school. This move is seen as an opportunity to honor Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who initiated the revolutionary free education program in Western Nigeria, and Dr. Tai Solarin, who dedicated his life to educating Nigerian children.
As a federal institution, TASUED will be the first federally owned tertiary school in Ogun East senatorial district. The university’s transition into a Federal University of Education is a strategic step in the Federal Government’s commitment to bolstering teacher education and enhancing the quality of instruction across all educational levels.
