Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), has expressed disappointment and frustration after an orphanage home in Rivers State, owned and funded by the state government, rejected a 14-year-old girl abandoned at his gate.

According to Apostle Chinyere, the girl’s father dropped her off at his gate without any means of identification. The girl was initially taken to the Nigerian police special Area Rumuokoro, where she received care and feeding. However, when she was taken to the orphanage home in Borokiri, the management refused to accept her, claiming that OPM had the capacity to care for her.

Apostle Chinyere revealed that this was not the first time the orphanage home had rejected children brought to them, stating that they had been doing so for the past 15 years, claiming that OPM was capable of taking care of them. “I use tithes and offerings from OPM Church to care for over 500 children, and not government allocations,” he said.

He questioned the rationale behind the orphanage home’s decision, stating OPM’s humanitarian efforts, including 37 free schools for orphans, two free specialist hospitals, 18 free estates, a free school for children with autism and Down syndrome, and OPM free multi-skill acquisition centers, among others.

The cleric expressed his outrage, stating that he had been rescuing abandoned children in Rivers State for over 15 years and that it was unacceptable for the orphanage home to reject the girl. “I have instructed my security not to return with the girl. It’s unacceptable that an orphanage home funded by the government would reject a child in need,” he said.

Apostle Chinyere appealed to Nigerians to share his message until it reached the right authorities, calling for accountability and transparency in the management of government-funded institutions. He also called on the government to investigate the matter and take necessary actions to ensure that children in need are not rejected by institutions funded by the government.
