The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong warning to politicians and individuals in the South-East region against misusing the ₦250 billion allocated for the newly created South East Development Commission.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesman for the pro-Biafran group, Emma Powerful, IPOB emphasized that the funds should be used solely for the region’s development.
The South East Development Commission was established to facilitate the development of the South-East region, which has been plagued by poverty, infrastructure decay, and neglect. The commission is tasked with implementing projects and programs aimed at promoting economic growth, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
IPOB is demanding that the funds allocated to the commission be used for specific projects, including:
– *Road construction and expansion*: To improve transportation networks and facilitate the movement of goods and people.
– *Rehabilitation of federal hospitals*: To improve healthcare services and provide access to quality medical care.
– *Establishment of new healthcare facilities*: To address the shortage of healthcare facilities and provide access to specialized medical services.
– *Building of power plants*: To provide reliable and affordable electricity, and promote economic growth.
IPOB warned that any misappropriation of the funds would be resisted, stressing that the money belongs to the entire South-East region and should be evenly distributed across all states and communities. The group emphasized that the funds should not be used for frivolous seminars, conferences, or foreign trips, but rather for tangible projects that would benefit the region.
IPOB called for transparency and accountability in the management of the funds, emphasizing that the commission’s activities should be open to scrutiny and oversight. The group warned that any attempt to mismanage or embezzle the funds would be exposed and resisted.
