The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State Chapter, joins the global community to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8, 2025.

In a press release to commemorate IWD, the chairperson, OYO NAWOJ, Mrs. Omolola Alamu said, “This year’s theme, “Accelerate Actions for a Gender-Equal World”, emphasizes the need for urgent and sustained action to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment.”

OYO NAWOJ is committed to using its platform to amplify the voices of women and girls, challenge patriarchal norms, and advocate for policies and practices that promote gender equality. Mrs. Alamu notes that “Accelerating actions towards gender equality requires collective effort and commitment from governments, policymakers, civil society, and individuals.

As part of its efforts to promote gender equality, OYO NAWOJ plans to organize a series of events and activities, including workshops, seminars, and advocacy campaigns, to raise awareness about the importance of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The association will also partner with other organizations and stakeholders to amplify the voices of women and girls and to push for policies and practices that promote gender equality. Furthermore, OYO NAWOJ urges the government and policymakers to take concrete steps to address the challenges faced by women and girls in Oyo State.

By working together, we can accelerate actions towards a gender-equal world and create a brighter future for all. This year’s IWD celebration is a call to action for everyone to join forces and work towards achieving a more equitable society.
