VfL Bochum delivered a remarkable comeback. They ended Bayern Munich’s impressive 11-game winning streak at home in the Bundesliga. The 3-2 victory took place at the Allianz Arena.
The hosts began the match looking disorganised. They made 10 changes to the lineup. This lineup had dominated Leverkusen 3-0 in midweek UEFA Champions League action. However, they struck first after just 14 minutes, courtesy of an exceptional moment from Raphaël Guerreiro. Serge Gnabry made an adventurous run on the left. Seeing this, the Portuguese midfielder seized the opportunity. The referee’s attention was diverted. He unleashed an unstoppable shot that ricocheted in off the underside of the bar.

Gnabry had a golden chance to extend the lead. This opportunity came only minutes later when Jakov Medić fouled Leroy Sané in the box. Unfortunately, his penalty rattled off the base of the post. Nevertheless, Bayern eventually doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark. Guerreiro headed home with his second goal in the match. This happened after a brilliant play from Thomas Müller. Bochum had not scored an away goal against Bayern since 2010, which made the situation appear dire. However, they responded immediately. Medić converted a loose ball into the net following a corner. From that moment, the entire match shifted.
Bayern’s concerns deepened just before halftime. João Palhinha received a straight red card for a studs-up challenge on Georgios Masouras. After the break, Bochum came out fiercely determined. They quickly found the equaliser through Ibrahima Sissoko. Sissoko expertly headed the ball into the far corner following a cross from Felix Passlack. They reduced their attacking approach after the equalizer. However, they nearly paid the price. Guerreiro squandered a golden opportunity by poking wide while clear on goal.
Bayern struggled to generate further chances and opted for a quadruple substitution on the hour mark. Initially, this seemed to restore their dominance, but they were caught off guard with just twenty minutes to go when Matúš Bero surged through the middle and delivered a composed finish to complete the comeback. These vital three points propelled Bochum out of the bottom two, placing them in the relegation playoff spot. In comparison, Bayern remains comfortably eight points clear at the top after Bayer Leverkusen’s loss to Werder Bremen.
