Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a gas cooker left unattended

In the Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state, a fire is said to have erupted on Friday at Ejiba Street, which is located off of Kwara Stadium Road.

The fire is said to have destroyed fifteen rooms. The fire, which was caused by carelessness in the handling of a gas cooker, was the second occurrence that the state fire department documented in Ilorin, which is the capital of Kwara State, in the span of one week.

Hassan Adekunle, a Principal Fire Officer and the head of Media and Publicity for the state’s fire service, issued a statement on Friday, March 7, 2025, at around 8:05 p.m., stating that the agency responded to a distress call involving a fire outbreak at Ejiba Road, which is located next to Ejiba Bridge in Ilorin, Kwara State.

It reads, “The fire crew responded swiftly and arrived to find several rooms ablaze. Out of 104 rooms in the storey building, they successfully saved 89, with only 15 affected by the inferno.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a gas cooker left unattended.”

IREPORT247NEW reported that On Wednesday, a fire broke out in the Oke-Apomu neighbourhood of Ilorin, Kwara State, caused by an unattended gas cooker.

The fire destroyed seven rooms out of a total of twenty rooms in the structure. Before the arrival of the firefighters, the incident, which took place at approximately two o’clock in the afternoon, completely consumed a structure that was located in the Alfa Koro site in Oke-Apomu and destroyed seven rooms.

Hassan Adekunle, a spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, verified the event and stated that the fire was caused by a gas burner that was left cooking without being supervised.

He stated, “On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 13:53 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call regarding a fire outbreak at No. 90 Koro Compound, Oke-Apomu, Ilorin, Kwara State.

“The fire crew responded swiftly and arrived to find several rooms engulfed in flames. The firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the fire and out of 20 rooms in the storey building, 13 were successfully saved, while seven were affected by the inferno.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by an unattended gas cooker.”
