The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has voiced its extreme disapproval of the decision made by the governors of Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, and Kebbi states to close schools during the holy month of Ramadan.

The PRP has referred to this decision as a move that puts the future of millions of children in jeopardy.

Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, issued a statement on Friday expressing the party’s great dissatisfaction and worry regarding what it referred to as an unnecessary disruption to the academic calendar’s schedule.

The party also brought up the fact that these same leaders went to school during the holy month of Ramadan without any disruptions when they were older.

The party issued a warning that any school closures will make the situation even more catastrophic, particularly in light of the region’s dismal performance in national assessments.

It reads, “This decision disrupts the educational programme of our children and undermines their right to quality education.

“How can a state led by such a learned individual decide that the best way to move forward is to lock the doors of learning during a time of fasting?the party asked, calling the move a contradiction that raises concerns about their commitment to progress.

“Historically, during their own time in secondary school, these leaders experienced uninterrupted learning during Ramadan,” the PRP noted, arguing that the decision to shut down schools is both inconsistent and damaging.

“Closing schools during Ramadan only deepens this crisis and threatens the educational advancement of millions of students.

“Many Islamic nations, such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, manage to balance educational needs with religious observance during this holy month by adapting school schedules rather than closing them entirely.

“They must engage constructively with parents, educators, and civil society organizations to reassess their decision and explore options that accommodate the needs of Muslim students while ensuring that education continues.

“It is time for the governors to stop playing politics with the futures of our children and instead commit to creating pathways for success through uninterrupted education.”

IREPORT247NEW reported that Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and a former presidential candidate, criticized all the northern governors for their decision to close schools in Kano, Bauchi, Katsina, Katsina, and Kebbi states because of Ramadan.

He described the action as both Ignorant and idiotic in a recent interview, Sowore questioned why Nigeria, would permit religious factors to interfere with academic activity during the month of Ramadan.

Sowore said, “When I become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the states will have no business with religion.

“I can’t be President and you come and close down schools because of fasting. It takes me back to outrage again that that has become normalized. Religion is sensitive.

“It is outrageous that anybody will close down schools where knowledge is supposed to be transmitted and transferred, including to Muslims.

“Because some of the schools that are also going to be closed are Quranic centers. So how do they learn the Quran if the schools are closed down because of fasting?

“It speaks to the depth of ignorance that has become the state policy in Nigeria. The leaders are ignoramuses. Basically, let me just put it straight, they are idiots.

“They should ask Saudi Arabia where everybody travel to for the lesser Hajj. Did they close down their schools? They can’t even afford to because they need the schools to produce the next Quranic leaders.

“That is why Karl Max said that religion is the opium of the masses, the moment they sniff it, they lose their minds. And the more we separate the state religion, the better.

“If you want to close down anybody, close down the government’s house. So that you can stop the corruption.

“We can invest in it in sending children to school. The schools instead should provide food so that when the children are about to leave, they break their fast.

“Bring them back early in the morning to break their fast and continue their education. Do you know that scientifically that when people are fasting, their minds are clearer, and they are purer, scientifically.”
