Concerns are growing over the inability of prospective governorship candidates in Anambra State to purchase the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) expression of interest and nomination forms for the November 8 election. The party had set a deadline for the sale of forms, which comes with a hefty N40 million price tag.

Despite the party’s determination to restore its presence in the zone, starting with the Anambra State governorship election, no aspirant has been able to purchase the forms. The high cost of the forms and the ongoing crisis within the party are reportedly causing aspirants to withdraw.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed the indirect primary mode for selecting its candidate. APC’s National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru, announced that the decision aligns with the position of the Anambra State chapter of the party. The party will meet with aspirants and stakeholders next week to finalize the primary’s modalities.

Bashiru also dismissed claims that the party has endorsed one of the seven aspirants vying for the ticket. Other parties, such as the Labour Party (LP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), are gaining popularity among governorship candidates in the state.
