A man named Salihu Byezhe, who was 52 years old, passed away on Friday after collapsing while praying at a mosque in Gudaba village, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The prayers were said during Subhi, which is the early morning prayer. Byezhe had just finished eating Sahur (a pre-dawn meal ahead of fasting), did ablution, and joined other believers for prayers when the incident took place, according to witnesses.

The incident took place on Thursday. An individual named Musa Dantani, who was a native of Gudaba and was there at the event, related how Byezhe suddenly fell while he was praying.

“Prayers were ongoing when he suddenly slumped, and some Muslims inside the mosque quickly held him and conveyed him to the hospital.

“He was still breathing on the way, but unfortunately, he gave up upon arrival.”

Byezhe’s death was later confirmed by a medical practitioner working at the hospital in Kuje, who stated that high blood pressure was the cause of death.

When the doctor proclaimed Byezhe dead, one of his sons, who was also present in the mosque at the time, was there to witness the event.

According to Islamic customs, his body was laid to rest at approximately 10:12 a.m. on Thursday.
