Jonathan and his master, Azeez Salami, had gone there to mend their malfunctioning truck.
On Thursday evening, a young man named Jonathan Emmanuel, who was 23 years old, was electrocuted in a welding workshop located in Ifo township, which is located in the Ifo local government area of Ogun State.
It is said that Jonathan, who was an apprentice in the truck driving industry, walked on a life wire that was exposed at the welding shop in the Asimolowo neighbourhood of Ifo.
Jonathan and his master, Azeez Salami, had gone there to mend their malfunctioning truck.
A mini bus that the owner of the articulated vehicle, Olaleye Kamaldeen, had brought for them at the welding business was loaded with around ten truck tyre rims that were intended for their truck.
The dead had joined his master, Salami, in order to dump these rims. However, the proprietor of the welding workshop, Oladokun Johnson, who was working on a container at his workshop, was unaware that the deceased person had rolled the rim across the exposed live wire that was already in use.
The incident was confirmed by the spokeswoman of the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola.
She also emphasised that Oladokun Johnson, the welder, Azeez Salami, the truck driver, and Olaleye Kamaldeen, the owner of the vehicle, had all been arrested in connection with the terrible incident.
According to Odutola, the matter was reported to the Ifo Divisional Police Headquarters on Thursday evening about six o’clock.
The father of the deceased, Emmanuel Brown Abah, was the one who made the report.
“Following the incident, police operatives recovered the welding machine and exposed wire as exhibits. The welder, truck owner and driver have been arrested and are currently in custody as investigations continue.
“The Ogun State Police Command strongly advises business owners and artisans to prioritise workplace safety measures to prevent such tragic and avoidable incidents.”
