Ambrose Alli University (AAU) has categorically denied claims by the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Governor Monday Okpebholo failed to fulfill his N500 million monthly subvention pledge to the institution.
The university’s management described the PDP’s allegations as baseless and lacking in substance.
The controversy surrounding the N500 million monthly subvention began when the Edo State government, led by Governor Okpebholo, announced plans to provide financial support to Ambrose Alli University. The government’s commitment was seen as a welcome development by the university community, which had been grappling with financial challenges.
However, the Edo State chapter of the PDP alleged that the state government had reneged on its promise, failing to release the N500 million monthly subvention for three consecutive months. The PDP also claimed that staff salaries for February remained unpaid, fueling discontent among university staff.
In a statement, the university’s Principal Assistant Registrar and Head of Information and Public Relations, Mike Aladenika, dismissed the PDP’s allegations as unfounded and mischievous. Aladenika emphasized that Governor Okpebholo’s administration has consistently paid the monthly subvention since November 2025.
Contrary to the PDP’s claims, Aladenika confirmed that the university has received all payments, including the February salary, which was paid on March 7. He attributed the delay in payment to technical issues, which have since been resolved.
The PDP had also alleged that the university administration reinstated staff previously indicted for misconduct, including sexual harassment and examination malpractice. However, Aladenika refuted these claims, explaining that the recall of sacked staff was done in good faith to correct past injustices.
The controversy surrounding the N500 million monthly subvention has highlighted the need for accurate information and transparency in governance. While the PDP’s allegations may have been motivated by political considerations, it is essential to rely on verifiable facts rather than speculation and misinformation.
