Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has expressed his willingness to join forces with Dr. Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 polls. This potential realignment comes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Shekarau, who recently co-founded the League of Northern Democrats (LND), stated that he bears no grudge against Kwankwaso, despite their past political differences. The former Minister of Education emphasized that their disagreements stemmed from structural injustices within party politics, rather than personal grievances or animosity.

He recounted how Kwankwaso was allegedly allocated a disproportionate share of leadership roles during the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State. Shekarau underscored the importance of fairness and justice in political arrangements, affirming that he and Kwankwaso can still sit together and discuss matters amicably.

“I explained that our political disagreements stemmed from structural injustices within party politics rather than personal grievances or animosity,” Shekarau said.

Shekarau expressed confidence in their ability to unite under a common cause if necessary. This potential alliance could have significant implications for the 2027 elections. With the LND strengthening consultations with key political figures across the federation, it remains to be seen whether this realignment with Kwankwaso is part of a broader strategic move.
