Mercy Chinwo Sues Blogger for N1.1Billion Over Defamatory Posts

The lawsuit stems from a series of social media posts where VDM allegedly made false and damaging statements against Chinwo.

VDM accused Chinwo of being involved in a contractual dispute and diverting $345,000 linked to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (EeZee Tee). However, Chinwo’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, described VDM’s comments as “libellous, malicious, and damaging” to the singer’s reputation.

The lawsuit demands that VDM:

  • Retract statements: Delete all allegedly defamatory posts and retract the statements
  • Public apology: Publish an unreserved apology across his social media platforms and in national newspapers
  • Damages: Pay N1 billion in general damages for defamation, N100 million in punitive and aggravated damages, and N25 million to cover legal costs
  • Interest: Pay a 10 percent interest on the judgment sum per annum until full payment is made

Chinwo has presented documentary evidence, including emails and payment receipts, to prove that the allegations are baseless. The lawsuit also requests a further apology to be published in four national dailies for 14 consecutive days.

This defamation suit comes as a Federal High Court in Lagos recently upheld an arrest warrant against EeZee Tee over an alleged fraudulent conversion case.
