First Bank of Nigeria Limited has commenced construction on a 44-storey edifice at Eko Atlantic, a city touted as the Manhattan of West Africa. The groundbreaking ceremony, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, marks a significant milestone in the bank's 130-year history.

According to FirstBank Group CEO, Olusegun Alebiosu, the new head office complex will serve as a hub for financial innovation, digital transformation, and operational excellence. “This ground-breaking ceremony is a momentous occasion for us, signifying our commitment to repositioning sturdily as ‘the’ bank for the future.”

The tower, expected to be the tallest in West Africa upon completion, will symbolize Nigeria’s progress and ambition, says Vice President Shettima. “FirstBank has been a pillar of our economy, empowering businesses, supporting families, and driving financial innovation.”

Other notable attendees at the ceremony included Femi Otedola, Chairman of First HoldCo Plc, and Aliko Dangote, promoter of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery Limited.
