The Ukawu community in Ebonyi State has denied allegations that their traditional ruler, HRH Vincent Ajah (Ogenyi IV), forged his First School Leaving Certificate. According to High Chief John Elom Elom, spokesperson for the community, the allegation is baseless and aimed at misleading the public.
Key Points:
- Community’s Requirements: The Ukawu community requires its traditional ruler to have basic literacy skills, nobility, and good character, rather than formal education.
- Election Process: HRH Vincent Ajah was duly elected by the community, defeating his opponent with 570 votes to 73.
- State Recognition: Ajah was issued a certificate of recognition and a staff of office by Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State.
Chief Elom emphasized, “The traditional stool of Ukawu community is not based on educational qualifications but on other criteria, including literacy, nobility, and character.” He questioned the timing of the allegations, raised a year after Ajah’s coronation.
The community has urged its members and the public to disregard the report, describing it as an attempt to misinform.
