14 Rescued, Others Trapped in Lagos Collapsed Building

A total of 14 persons have so far been rescued and taken to Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment

The collapse of a building that was being constructed on Oriwu Street in the Lekki Phase 1 neighbourhood of Lagos State has resulted in the entrapment of a number of individuals beneath the rubble.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement that was released on Wednesday that the incident took place at approximately four o’clock in the afternoon.

It was also reported by Hundeyin that fourteen people had been rescued from the wreckage and transported to the hospital for examination and treatment.

Hundeyin wrote, “Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have been mobilised to the scene of the collapse of a building under construction at Oriwu Street, Lekki Phase 1 which occurred at about 1600hrs today.

“A total of 14 persons have so far been rescued and taken to Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment.

“Meanwhile, operatives of the Command remain on ground to provide security for the ongoing rescue operation.”

IREPORT247NEW recall that a two-story structure that was under construction also fell in the Ikota neighbourhood of Ajah, Lagos, killing an unidentified number of people.

Mega Mall Estate, Mobile Road, Inikpa Villa, Ikota, is where the incident happened.

The Lagos Office Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency, which confirmed the collapse.

“Information indicates that more people are likely trapped in the rubble. Search and rescue operation is ongoing. Investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of collapse,” Farinloye said.
