It is necessary for them to register for tax purposes with the government.

The junta that governs the Niger Republic has stated that in order for social media group platforms to function, they would need to obtain a license from the government.

The authoritarian government has begun the process of requiring WhatsApp and Facebook group users with a membership of at least fifty to register with a government agency.

This step is one of the measures that are being taken to regulate free speech.

“All WhatsApp and Facebook groups with up to fifty members must register in order to be allowed to operate,” said Sidi Mohamed Raliou, Minister of Communication, Posts, and Digital Economy, when he made this information public on Monday.

Raliou made the observation that various social media platforms were being utilized in order to fight a cyber war against the junta.

There is a platform for individuals to sell things both locally and globally through the use of Facebook and WhatsApp groups.

Because of this, individuals now have the opportunity to run full-fledged e-commerce firms directly through social media.

Consequently, it is necessary for them to register for tax purposes with the government.

“Facebook and WhatsApp groups provide users with a platform to sell products locally and globally. This has created opportunities for individuals to run full-fledged e-commerce businesses directly through social media; hence the need for them to register for tax purposes.”
