The Police Service Commission has approved the appointment of six Deputy Inspectors General of Police, as well as new Commissioners of Police for Enugu and Oyo State Commands.
This move is part of the ongoing efforts to reform the Nigeria Police Force and strengthen its leadership.
The newly appointed DIGs include:
– *Sadiq Abubakar*: Commandant Police Academy, Wudil, Kano
– *Benjamin Okolo*: AIG Department of Information Communication Technology, Force Headquarters Abuja
– *Williams Adebowale*: Commandant, Police Staff College Jos
– *Bzigu Bali*: AIG FCID, Annex Enugu
– *Idegwu Basil Ukuoma*: AIG Zone 14, Katsina
– *Adebola Ayinde Hamzat*: AIG Zone 16 Yenagoa
These appointments were made after a rigorous selection process, which included written examinations and interactive oral interviews. The new DIGs are expected to bring their wealth of experience and expertise to their new roles and support the Inspector General of Police in achieving the Nigeria Police Force’s strategic objectives.
The commission also approved the promotion of Kanayo Uzuegbu, Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police. Uzuegbu has had a distinguished career, serving as Assistant Commissioner Operations Zone 9, Umuahia; Area Commander, Owerri; and Commander Switch Operation Switch, Portharcourt, among other postings.
The commission also announced the appointment of new Commissioners of Police for Oyo and Enugu State Commands. *CP Ademola Johnson*, Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police, was appointed CP Oyo State, while *CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa* was appointed CP, Enugu State, to take over from newly promoted AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu.
Additionally, the commission approved the promotion of eight Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners of Police. They include:
