The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of four students from the Federal University Dutsinma.

According to DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the Police Public Relations Officer, one of the kidnapped students was rescued by security operatives, while efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining three.

The abduction occurred on Sunday morning when bandits invaded the students’ quarters, Paris Quarters, behind the university building. The hoodlums, armed with sophisticated weapons like AK-47 rifles, whisked away the victims at about 2:20 am. Security operatives were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call, but the bandits had already fled into the bush.

DSP Sadiq assured that the police are intensifying efforts to rescue the remaining three students. The rescue of one student is a positive development, and the police are working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of the others.

The Dutsinma local government area of Katsina State is a security frontline area, plagued by banditry and other crimes. Despite state and federal government interventions, the area remains a challenge for security agencies.

In a similar incident in October, five female students of the Federal University Dutsinma were abducted by gunmen suspected to be bandits. One of the students escaped, and the remaining four were later released.

The abduction of the four Katsina varsity students is a concerning incident that highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region. The police and security agencies must continue to work tirelessly to rescue the remaining students and ensure the safety of all citizens.
