Nigeria National League (NNL) side Gombe United Football Club has named Coach Abdullahi Tyabo Umar as its new Technical Adviser, marking a significant step in the club’s efforts to bolster its squad. The announcement follows the exit of former coach Bala Nkiyu.

Coach Umar’s appointment was confirmed after receiving unanimous support from the club’s management. He was formally introduced in a statement released by Gombe United’s Head of Media and Communications, Shuaibu Muhammad Angazy. General Manager Alh. Anas Bamusa praised the decision, citing Umar’s proven track record and alignment with the club’s vision.

“Coach Tyabo’s selection is a testament to his merits,” Bamusa said. “His philosophy resonates with the style of football cherished by Gombe United supporters. Given his connection to our former Technical Adviser, Coach Aliyu Zubairu, and the impressive turnaround he orchestrated during his time, we are confident that Coach Umar can rebuild and elevate this team to new heights.”

Umar joins Gombe United from Akwa United, where he spent eight years between 2016 and 2024, taking on various roles. His standout achievement came last season when he steered Akwa United clear of relegation, securing a vital away win against Plateau United and a gritty draw against Gombe United on the road. His knack for thriving under pressure has positioned him as a key asset for his new team.

In his inaugural remarks as Technical Adviser, Coach Umar expressed enthusiasm and resolve. “The warm reception has been incredible. We face challenges ahead, but I’m focused on solutions, not excuses. My goal is to shape this team into a strong, results-driven unit where the collective always takes precedence over the individual”, he said.
