RAMADAN RAGE TURNS DEADLY: Bauchi Police Arrest Man for Brutally Flogging Wife to Death Over Food

A devastating incident has shaken the community in Bauchi, Nigeria, after a 50-year-old man, Alhaji Nuru Isah, was arrested for allegedly beating his 24-year-old wife, Wasila Abdullahi, to death with a cane.

According to CSP Ahmed Wakil, the Command Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred on March 1, 2025, at around 11:30 p.m. near Government Girls College, Fadamam Mada Area, Bauchi. Wakil stated, “On the March 1, 2025, at about 11:30 PM, the Bauchi State Police Command was alerted to an alleged culpable homicide incident near Government Girls College, Fadamam Mada Area, Bauchi.”

The altercation reportedly arose from a misunderstanding between Isah and his second wife, Wasila, over handling food ingredients and fruits designated for breaking the Ramadan fast.

Wakil explained, “This unfortunate event arose from a misunderstanding between one Alh Nuru Isah, aged 50, a businessman at Central market Bauchi and his second wife, Wasila Abdullahi, aged 24, concerning handling food ingredients and fruits designated for breaking the Ramadan fast, which escalated into a violent confrontation.”

After striking his wife with the cane, Wasila collapsed and was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her death. The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, and the suspect remains in custody.

Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa Muhammad assured the public that the command is committed to ensuring justice in the case. The incident highlights the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of fostering respect and understanding in families.
