The Nigeria Police Force has refuted allegations circulating on social media regarding the existence of 79 terrorists in the Lugbe area of Abuja, characterizing the story as inaccurate and deceptive.

In light of escalating security apprehensions in the Federal Capital Territory, the police assured citizens that there was no intelligence substantiating the assertion.

On Sunday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, refuted the viral message, extensively disseminated on WhatsApp and other platforms, as a calculated effort to provoke alarm and undermine tranquility in the city.

“The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a false and misleading message alleging the presence of 79 terrorists in the Lugbe axis and announcing a curfew. This message is entirely untrue and should be disregarded.

Additional clarification was provided by the police, stating that intelligence reports and security assessments had not discovered any evidence of terrorist activities in Lugbe or the areas surrounding it. It

“Is a lie that the mail, which is supposedly signed by “ACP Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Police Command Headquarters, Abuja,” was sent. “It was generated by individuals who were seeking to create tension and panic in the FCT,” the statement went on to say.

It was encouraged by the police that Nigerians should only rely on information that has been validated from official sources, such as the social media handles of the police force. Additionally, the police warned against sharing security alerts that were not verified, as this may cause unwarranted anxiety.
