Farmers in Ogunmmakin, Ibadan, are desperately seeking help from Governor Seyi Makinde to protect them from the destructive activities of Fulani herdsmen.
According to the farmers, the herdsmen wait until their crops are ripe for harvest, then march their cattle onto the farms, destroying everything in their path.
When the farmers complain, they are often underpaid for the damages. For instance, one farmer whose vandalized farm costs ₦500,000 received only ₦20,000 in compensation.
The Head farmer in Gambari reserve, Ogunmmakin town, lamented that the herdsmen have destroyed his three farms, and when he sought redress, the Seriki Fulani told him to seek help elsewhere.
The situation has escalated, with the herdsmen now possessing guns and threatening the farmers. Despite multiple reports to the Idi Ayunre police station, no action has been taken, leading the farmers to suspect a conspiracy between the police and the herdsmen.
Mr. Bankole and Mrs. Yemisi Oladoke, both farmers, echoed the pleas of their fellow farmers, calling on Governor Seyi Makinde and Yoruba leaders to intervene and put an end to the devastation caused by the Fulani herdsmen.
