On Friday, over 55 workers trapped under snow due to an avalanche in Uttarakhand’s Badrinath. Officials quickly arrived at the site to carry out the rescue operation.

Reports Say that more than 55 workers became trapped beneath a thick blanket of snow. On the National Highway in Uttarakhand after a severe avalanche struck in the vicinity of Badrinath Dham. Following an intense period of snowfall over the previous 48 hours.

The incident transpired on the state National Highway that links Mana to Ghastoli. A route crucial for local commuters and tourists visiting the region.

Rescue operations promptly initiated, with teams from the administration and the Border Roads Organisation dispatched to the site. Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Suman confirmed that they have successfully rescued 16 workers. While efforts are still ongoing to evacuate the remaining 41 individuals trapped under the snow.

These workers employed by a private contractor engaged in road construction projects in the region. Which has hampered by the severe winter weather. The avalanche caused a significant collapse of the glacier, leading to additional hazards as it tumbled into a nearby river. Causing extensive damage to construction sites in the area.

In light of this dangerous situation, the government has alerted local residents of the increased risks of further avalanches. Additionally, authorities have disseminated an avalanche alert for high-altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

Local governments and administrative officials strongly advise the public to avoid travelling to higher elevations. Take necessary precautions and steer clear of areas. Avalanches to ensure their safety amidst the changing and unpredictable weather conditions.
