The Sultanate Council of Sokoto has called on Muslims across Nigeria to be on the lookout for the new moon of Ramadan on Friday, February 28, 2025, which corresponds to 29 Sha’aban 1446AH in the Islamic calendar.
This announcement was made in an official statement released by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu.
According to Junaidu, moon sighting is crucial in determining the start of Ramadan, a sacred month of fasting, prayer, and spiritual devotion. He emphasized that Muslims who sight the crescent should report their observations to their nearest District or Village Head, who will then communicate the information to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
To facilitate swift communication, the Sultanate Council has provided designated phone numbers for direct reporting of the moon sighting: 08037157100, 08066303077, 08035965322, 08099945903, and 07067146900.
The council concluded with a prayer, saying, “May Allah (SWT) help us in the discharge of this religious duty. Amen.”
This announcement comes as Muslims prepare for the holy month of Ramadan, a period of spiritual reflection, fasting, and charity.
