Mr. Akinbola Tunde, a businessman and chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos, has claimed to have been the victim of political persecution, intimidation, and life-threatening.
Akinbola, who played a vital role for Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, alleged that he has been the victim of relentless harassment, which has included physical assaults and a home incursion, since the election.
While in Ondo State for a ceremony on March 4, 2023, he described the terrifying experience of his home invasion.
Akinbola said, “I received a distressing call from my housemaid, Miss Adeoti Rachael, who told me that armed political thugs had broken into my home, shouting my name as they searched for me.
‘When they couldn’t find me, they vandalized my property and brutally beat up my housemaid. She had to be hospitalized at Pillars Medical Centre.”
Claiming to have been physically attacked on his way home from a Labour Party campaign rally in Alimosho, Lagos State, on December 12, 2022, he said, “I was ambushed by armed political thugs. They attacked me, and as I struggled to escape, I sustained a serious knee injury that took six weeks to heal.
“The perpetrators continue to act with impunity. The police have done nothing, and my family and I live in constant fear for our lives.
Akinbola voiced his worry that threats against him had escalated in the lead-up to the 2025 local government elections, making him question if he would continue to be politically active.
To protect himself, he pleaded with the federal government, security services, human rights groups.
“I refuse to be silenced by intimidation. I only want to contribute to the progress of my country in an environment where democracy, justice, and freedom of speech prevail.”
