Lagos State House of Assembly lawmakers have reaffirmed their decision to remove Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, insisting that Mojisola Meranda is the rightful leader of the House.

This development comes after Obasa claimed he remains the speaker, despite being removed by the lawmakers.

The 36 lawmakers, who spoke with journalists at the assembly complex on Thursday, maintained that Obasa’s removal stands, citing his lack of election by his constituency and his “master-slave leadership” style, which they endured for nearly a decade.

Steven Ogundipe, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy, emphasized the lawmakers’ commitment to ensuring Obasa’s removal is permanent. “He was not elected as Speaker by his constituency. We endured his master-slave leadership for nearly a decade. Now, we’ve had enough, and we’re not backing down,” he stated.

Meanwhile, two lawmakers, Ayinde Akinsanya and Noheem Adams, were spotted accompanying Obasa into the Assembly complex, signaling continued tension within the legislative body.

The Lagos Assembly has been embroiled in a dispute since Obasa’s removal as Speaker on January 13. The crisis has led to protests and clashes between legislative workers and Department of State Services (DSS) officials.

In a related development, the Police Service Commission (PSC) announced the appointment of Olohundare Moshood Jimoh as the new Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, amid the rising tensions surrounding the Assembly.
