The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has ordered MultiChoice Nigeria, the operator of DStv and GOtv, to suspend its proposed price hike pending an investigation into the company’s tariff adjustment.

The FCCPC’s directive, issued on Thursday, February 27, 2025, follows MultiChoice’s request for an extension regarding its scheduled appearance before the commission. The regulator had summoned MultiChoice’s CEO to appear before it on February 27 for an investigative hearing, but granted the company’s request to postpone the session until March 6, 2025.

In a statement, the FCCPC instructed MultiChoice to maintain its current subscription prices, effective February 27, 2025, until the commission completes its review and makes a final determination on the matter.

The FCCPC emphasized that freezing prices would prevent potential consumer exploitation during the investigation period. The commission also mandated MultiChoice’s CEO, relevant officers, and a comprehensive response to the inquiry to appear before it on March 6, 2025.

MultiChoice had notified its customers on Monday of the impending price adjustment, citing a review of its pricing structure. The proposed adjustment would increase the DStv Compact package, while the Compact Plus and Premium bouquets would remain unchanged.

The FCCPC’s investigation and directive aim to protect consumers from unfair business practices and ensure that MultiChoice complies with regulatory requirements. The commission will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
