In a significant move to prioritize the health and wellbeing of its young citizens, the Oyo State Government has officially launched the enrolment of 10,000 basic school pupils into the state’s healthcare insurance scheme.

This initiative, flagged off at the Ibadan Civic Centre, Idi-Ape, is a testament to the government’s commitment to ensuring that pupils have sound minds for effective learning.

Key Highlights of the Initiative

– 10,000 pupils: The initial phase of the scheme will cover 10,000 public primary school pupils.- *90 schools*: The initiative will span across 90 schools in 18 local government areas.

– Free healthcare: The enrolled pupils will have access to free and quality healthcare services.

– Insurance Scheme ID cards: The state Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, presented Insurance Scheme ID cards to the enrolled pupils.

Stakeholders’ Reactions

The Chief of UNICEF Lagos Field Office, Celine Lafoucriere, commended the initiative, stating that it reinforces the collective commitment to universal health coverage. “This initiative ensures that no child faces financial obstacles to accessing healthcare,” she said.

The Chairman of OYOSUBEB, Nureni Adeniran, assured the board’s commitment to the smooth implementation and sustainability of the scheme. “At OYOSUBEB, we operate on the principle of taking care of the pupils under our care as though they are ours,” Adeniran stated.

A New Door to Quality Healthcare

The Executive Secretary of OYSHIA, Olusola Akande, described the scheme as “a new door being opened,” focusing on providing healthcare access to 10,000 public primary school pupils in the initial phase .

This initiative is a significant step towards ensuring that the children of Oyo State have access to quality healthcare, which is essential for their overall development and wellbeing.
