Tragedy struck on the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway in Yobe State, Nigeria, after a devastating road accident claimed the lives of 10 people and left three others injured.
The incident occurred at a checkpoint in Warsala town around 3 pm on Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses, a truck loaded with cement and passengers lost control, summersaulted, and plunged into a ditch, resulting in the tragic loss of life.
The Public Relations Officer for the Yobe State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident, stating that the truck collided with a Sharon car at the checkpoint before veering into the ditch.
Fortunately, the driver of the Sharon car escaped unharmed, although the vehicle was damaged. The injured passengers were rushed to the Specialists Hospital in Damaturu for medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the truck was carrying 13 passengers, 10 of whom died instantly, while the three others sustained injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for improved road safety measures and responsible driving practices.
