Kwara State Government has launched a Coding and Digital Literacy training programme for 50 public primary and junior secondary schools across the state.
The initiative, organized by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital and Innovation, Ishola Kayode, aims to strengthen the state’s investments in the education sector.
The programme targets over 150 students in each of the 50 schools for the pilot scheme, with the goal of ensuring that public school students are not left behind in the digital world. According to Ishola, the programme will equip students with digital literacy skills, enabling them to solve problems in their communities and compete favourably with their global counterparts.
Key Highlights of the Programme:
– Pilot Scheme: 50 public primary and junior secondary schools selected for the pilot scheme.
– Student Participation: Over 150 students in each school to participate in the programme.
– Digital Literacy Skills: Students to be equipped with digital literacy skills to solve problems and compete globally.
– Expansion Plans: Programme to be expanded after a data-driven assessment.
The launch ceremony was held at the Bishop’s Smith Junior Secondary School in Ilorin, with other public schools in the capital city, including Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin Grammar School, and Sheikh Alimi L.G.E.A Primary School, also participating in the pilot scheme.
This initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to invest in youth development and talent discovery, particularly in the digital space. As Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq noted, “We are now faced with the reality of the digital revolution… With the foundation laying of a digital society for this generation, the children of Kwara State would not lag behind among their counterparts globally”.
