The Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO), located in Owo, has been upgraded and converted to a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness with the approval of Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor of Ondo State.
After the state government under the previous administration reviewed the original request to transform the institution to a University of Management Science and Technology, the State Polytechnic was converted.
Following his inauguration as Ondo State’s seventh elected governor, Aiyedatiwa announced the institution’s conversion to the University of Agriculture and Agribusiness.
He stated that the university will serve up as a model for the state government’s agribusiness and food security revolution initiative.
He also stated that the government will form a commission to determine the procedures for carrying out the conversion, guaranteeing that the current students and employees of the school will not suffer any consequences.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and a private investor for the infusion of N15 billion into a youth-oriented agriculture initiative in the state was also authorized by the governor.
The government and AgroMall Discovery and Extension Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding to construct and run the Young Ranchers Agricultural Cluster Development Program.
Utilizing three higher education institutions—including the recently renovated RUGIPO—as host pilot beneficiaries, the enterprise will utilize five hectares of land in each of the state’s three clusters.
Young people’s hands-on agricultural experiences and students’ hands-on training in agriculture and allied fields will be the main goals of the program.
In addition to providing the students with training, each of the three universities that will serve as hosts will receive a portion of the operations’ profits.
In a similar development, Governor Aiyedatiwa has authorized a Memorandum of Understanding with BBA Consult about the creation and implementation of a secure ICT to improve the state’s resource planning and management system in order to generate more revenue.
