With the express purpose of eradicating medical tourism, Tinubu boosted the health budget this year.

Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, the Nigerian minister of state for health and social welfare, has said that the goal of President Bola Tinubu was to end medical tourism.

In an effort to put an end to medical tourism, Dr. Salako reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has raised the health budget allocation for this year.

While on a normal equipment supervision visit to Kaduna’s National Eye Centre, Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, and National Ear Care Centre yesterday, the minister made the following statement: With the express purpose of eradicating medical tourism, Tinubu boosted the health budget this year.

According to Salako, the budget would help lower the cost of controlled pharmaceuticals and other medical consumables by implementing a new recruitment procedure and tackling japa syndrome.

This will be done through the issuance of waivers and a comprehensive change in the mechanisms involved.

He stated, “The federal government budget for eye care surgery across Nigeria is hinged on what National Eye Centre Kaduna can do.

“It means that this hospital is strategic in the implementation of that aspect of the budget. The staff of this hospital must rededicate themselves to work.

“I still feel this hospital is not doing enough because we still have a sizable number of Nigerians with preventable blindness, cataract and so many others.

“I want you to increase your penetration to the communities,” he added.

The minister encouraged the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital to collaborate with the Kaduna State Government on Mental Health Services to guarantee the effective delivery of services at the grassroots.

During his time at the Ear Care Centre, Salako stated that in order to get excellent results, teamwork is required.
