Former Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for securing federal government support within his first 100 days in office.
Shaibu stated that this achievement was not possible under the previous administration led by Godwin Obaseki.
Shaibu, who served under Obaseki, praised Okpebholo’s ability to engage with the federal government, securing support that will free up state resources for other development projects. He acknowledged that Obaseki’s administration had good intentions but claimed that political interests interfered with their plans.
Shaibu reflected on his experience in government, urging people to pray for their leaders, as a governor’s failure can have far-reaching consequences for the state. He noted that his administration, despite its good intentions, was hindered by politics and vested interests.
The relationship between Shaibu and Obaseki deteriorated before the September 21, 2024 governorship election, leading Shaibu to return to the All Progressives Congress. Okpebholo, the APC candidate, was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Shaibu’s comments highlight the challenges faced by the previous administration in securing federal support and the importance of effective leadership in driving development in Edo State.
