Nasiru El-rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has revealed that he wasn’t a close associate of President Bola Tinubu.

In an interview with Arise TV on Monday, El-rufai shared his thoughts on the 2022 presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated that he was indifferent about the choice of candidate, with his only concern being that a Southerner should emerge as the party’s flagbearer.

According to El-rufai, “I was indifferent on who became the presidential candidate of APC. The only thing I was determined to do was to stop a Northerner from becoming the candidate of the party based on what I know.” He also referenced the party’s agreement in 2013 that power would shift to the South after President Buhari’s eight-year tenure.

In a candid remark, El-rufai disclosed, “Tinubu was never my friend, we weren’t close”. This statement sheds light on the dynamics between El-rufai and Tinubu, highlighting that their relationship was not as close as some might have assumed.
