Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Primeboy have been cleared of any wrong doing in the death of fellow musician Mohbad. by a Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos State.
The court’s decision was based on legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Lagos, which stated that the trio had no case to answer.
Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje delivered the ruling, exonerating Naira Marley, whose real name is Abdulazeez Fashola, from any involvement in Mohbad’s death. Alongside Naira Marley, the court also freed music promoter Samson Balogun, known as Sam Larry; Owodunni Ibrahim, also called Primeboy; and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.
However, the DPP has recommended prosecuting the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and one of Mohbad’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq, for reckless and negligent acts contrary to Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances, sparking widespread public outcry and demands for justice. The case has been highly publicized, with various individuals, including Naira Marley and Sam Larry, being arrested and questioned by the Lagos State Police Command.
The court’s decision has elicited mixed reactions from the public, with some expressing relief over the exoneration and others voicing concerns about the thoroughness of the investigation.
