Natasha requested that the defendants pay her N300 million in litigation costs and N100 billion in general damages

A defamation suit has been launched against Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Among the defendants named in the complaint that was filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court on February 25, 2025, are Akpabio and Mfon Patrick, who is the Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President.

The reassignment of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Senate seat sparked the issue.

An altercation with the Senate President resulted from her resistance to the relocation. As things got out of hand, Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that Akpabio had made disparaging remarks about her, which his assistant had posted on Facebook.

The post titled “Is the Local Content Committee of the Senate Natasha’s Birthright?” included a statement suggesting that Akpoti-Uduaghan believed being a lawmaker was only about pancaking her face and wearing transparent outfits to the chambers.”

Victor Giwa, her lawyer, argued that the statement was disparaging, provocative, and defamatory, harming Akpoti-Uduaghan’s reputation among her peers and the general public.

Natasha is requesting a declaration that Akpabio and his assistant’s remarks are defamatory and meant to provoke public outrage.

Additionally, the Kogi legislator is requesting that the court prevent the defendants and their accomplices from continuing to disparage her on any forum.

Natasha requested that the defendants pay her N300 million in litigation costs and N100 billion in general damages.

“An order for the payment of the sum of N100,000,000,000 as general damages. An order for the payment of the sum of N300,000,000 as the cost of action.”
