Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed his gratitude to friends, associates, and well-wishers who celebrated his 65th birthday, but also took a swipe at his detractors.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Monday, El-Rufai thanked everyone who sent him prayers and best wishes, including those who were reluctant to acknowledge his birthday until President Bola Tinubu’s message compelled them to do so.

El-Rufai’s statement was a mix of appreciation and subtle mockery, as he acknowledged the overwhelming number of messages he received, but also noted that some individuals only reached out after President Tinubu’s message.

He expressed his gratitude to all, regardless of their motivations, and prayed for continued health, happiness, and prosperity for himself and the nation.

President Tinubu had earlier congratulated El-Rufai on his 65th birthday, recognizing him as an “administrator, scholar, and politician” celebrated for his “resourcefulness and brilliance” .

The President’s message was seen as a significant gesture, given El-Rufai’s role as a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his contributions to the party’s victories in three consecutive elections.

El-Rufai’s response to President Tinubu’s message and the subsequent flood of birthday wishes was characteristic of his straightforward and often humorous style. He has been known for speaking his mind and taking jabs at his detractors, and his latest statement was no exception.
