Reno Omokri has made an explosive claim  that Alhaja Asabi Abibat Mogaji, the mother of the incumbent President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bila Ahmed Tinubu was the Chief proponent for the creation of Lagos State.

“This is a photo from the reception held for Chief Obafemi Awolowo to celebrate his release from prison on Tuesday, August 2, 1966, at Ikeja Airport. Alhaja Asabi Abibat Mogaji, the mother of the incumbent President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, organised the reception.

Alhaja Mogaji was the leader of all market women in Nigeria and the chief proponent for the creation of Lagos State.

Alhaja Mogaji lobbied Chief Awolowo for the creation of Lagos State, which until then was a part of Western Nigeria. Chief Awolowo obliged as the then vice Chairman of the Executive Council of the Federation, sometimes mistakenly called the Federal Executive Council.

Chief Awolowo convinced Lt. Colonel Yakubu Gowon, and Lagos State was created on Saturday, May 27, 1967.”
