President Bola Tinubu has launched the reconstruction and expansion of the Lagos-Ibadan Dual Carriageway and the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway. The project, which is expected to be completed within 24 months, will include:
- Underpasses: Construction of underpasses at Kara, Wawa, Magboro, and Arepo to facilitate smooth traffic flow.
- Flyover Bridges: Building of flyover bridges at Kilometer 16 near the Mountain of Fire Ministries and Kilometer 37 at Makun around Sagamu.
- Pedestrian Bridges: Installation of pedestrian bridges at Arepo, Magboro, NASFAT, Deeper Life, and Redemption Camp.
The president acknowledged the strategic importance of the road, which connects Lagos to the 17 southern states of the federation. He emphasized the federal government’s commitment to rebuilding, expanding, and modernizing the national road networks, railways, and airports to boost economic prosperity.

President Bola Tinubu stressed the vital role of road infrastructure in driving socio-economic growth, noting that it fuels economic expansion, facilitates movement, and enhances overall quality of life. However, he lamented the long neglect of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which has resulted in significant loss of life due to its poor condition.
The president highlighted the benefits of upgrading and expanding the expressway, including reduced travel times, improved efficiency and productivity, enhanced safety, and easier business operations. He emphasized that incorporating the Sagamu-Ore road into this phase aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s goal of bringing national road networks up to international standards, supporting economic growth, and driving industrial development.
Minister of Works Senator Dave Umahi provided details on the project’s scope, including the construction of underpasses, flyover bridges, and pedestrian bridges. He also stressed the importance of adhering to contractual procedures, directing that payments to contractors be made only with a valid Advanced Payment Guarantee (APG) certificate and Performance Bond.
Chairman of the House Committee on Works Hon. Akin Alabi expressed the House’s commitment to collaborating with the Ministry to ensure Nigerians have access to quality road networks, recognizing the far-reaching impact on the country’s economic well-being.
