Switzerland’s armed forces chief, Thomas Suessli, has expressed his country’s willingness to contribute troops to a future peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.
This decision, however, is contingent upon a formal request and approval from the Swiss government.
Suessli emphasized that deploying troops would require a thorough decision-making process involving the government and parliament.
Switzerland’s potential contribution could include approximately 200 soldiers, deployable within nine to 12 months.
This development comes amid discussions among European powers about sending peacekeepers to Ukraine as part of diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
