Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his commitment to resolving the issues delaying the Ondo deep seaport project.
The project, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, has been stalled due to an error in the names listed on the port’s operating licence.
Aiyedatiwa explained that the error led to a dispute, and the state government had to take steps to rectify the issue. He assured that the errors would be corrected, and investors would be attracted to drive the project forward. The governor stated that the project would drive development in the state and create economic opportunities.
To resolve the issue, Aiyedatiwa said the state government would develop a new business case and submit it to the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC). He also noted that the government would assess whether the initial investors were still interested or if they had chosen to invest elsewhere due to the delays.
In addition to resolving the seaport project issues, Aiyedatiwa reiterated his commitment to continuing ongoing infrastructural projects, particularly road construction, across the 18 local government areas of the state. He stated that his administration would construct new roads, maintain existing ones, and complete ongoing projects.
Aiyedatiwa’s administration has already made progress in road construction, completing 60 kilometres of roads by the end of last year. The governor expressed his commitment to building more roads and maintaining existing ones, ensuring that the state’s infrastructure continues to develop.
The Ondo deep seaport project is expected to be a game-changer for the state’s economy, providing a vital link to the international community and creating employment opportunities. With Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to resolving the issues delaying the project, the people of Ondo State can look forward to a brighter economic future.
